Product Safety and Warranty
1. MATERIAL CONTENT AND PHYSICAL FORM
Electrical connectors typically do not contain hazardous materials. Under normal conditions of use, they are classified as "Articles" under the Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) and are not considered hazardous. Solder and fluxes can be hazardous if inhaled or absorbed through the skin and should be used as recommended by the manufacturer.
2. FIRE CHARACTERISTICS AND ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD
No fire hazard exists when connectors are correctly wired and used within specified parameters. Incorrect wiring, assembly, or careless use of tools may cause electric shock or burns. Live circuits must not be broken by separating mated connectors to avoid arcing. Overheating can occur due to increased resistance from damage (e.g., cracked contacts, broken strands), incorrect tools, poor soldering, or loose terminals. Exceeding product data sheet ratings can cause insulation breakdown and electric shock. Continued heating intensifies by increasing local resistance, leading to potential fire in the presence of combustible materials and release of noxious fumes. Burns may result from touching overheated components.
3. HANDLING
Care must be taken to avoid damage to connector components during installation and use. While sharp edges are uncommon, caution is advised to prevent finger injury. Always wear safety glasses during cleaning, soldering, or fiber preparation. Connectors may be damaged in transit, creating hazards. Examine products before installation and reject if damaged. Use proper lifting techniques for shipping cartons.
4. DISPOSAL
Recycle, reclaim, or dispose of connectors and components in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. Incineration of certain materials may release noxious or toxic fumes.
5. APPLICATION
Connectors with exposed contacts should not be used on the current supply side of an electrical circuit to prevent electric shock. Voltages exceeding 30 V ac or 42.5V dc are potentially hazardous; ensure such voltages cannot be transmitted to exposed metal parts. Before energizing, check connectors and wiring for damage, solder blobs, loose strands, conducting lubricants, swarf, or other conductive particles. Perform circuit resistance and continuity checks for high resistance joints or spurious conducting paths. Always use specified application tools, cleaning materials, and assembly instructions. Do not allow untrained personnel to wire, assemble, or tamper with connectors. Refer to national regulations for operating voltage.
IMPORTANT GENERAL INFORMATION
(i) Air and creepage paths/Operating voltage: Admissible operating voltages depend on applications and applicable safety regulations. Air and creepage path data are reference values; observe reductions due to PC boards and/or harnessing.
(ii) Temperature: All information provided are temperature limits; operating temperature depends on the individual application.
(iii) Pressure: All pressure information are differential pressure limits. Specific differential pressure limits across the connector interface are documented in the Data Safety/Catalog.
(iv) Other important information: Cannon continuously endeavors to improve products; therefore, products may deviate from descriptions, technical data, and shapes shown in catalogs and data sheets. Commodities may be controlled for export/re-export under EAR, NRC, or ITAR regulations if designed, modified, or configured for military use.
